The number one question I get asked about dentures is what type of adhesive should be used. There are a couple of types that are good. I personally have had good experience with my patients using either Fixodent powder or cream. The cream is a little easier to use but I’ve found that the powder seems to have a bit better hold. The trick to using the cream is to only place a small bead around the inside of the denture. If you place too much, it can cause the denture to be unstable. Denture Cleaners
It is very important to take care of your denture and keep it clean. If you don’t keep it clean it will start to to get hard build-up on it which can harbor bacteria and lead to infections. I think everyone with a denture should invest in an ultrasonic cleaner. This is what we use in the dental office to clean your denture and it works extremely well. If you don’t use an ultrasonic cleaner, you’ll want to brush your denture every night with soap and water and then leave it in a denture cleaner overnight. Do not use toothpaste to brush your denture as this will scratch it’s surface leading to staining and build-up on your denture.
